Have you ever stopped and wondered why if you were going over the speed limit by two miles you were still given a ticket? Or why you had to wait an extra forty five minutes for a table at your favorite place to eat? I'll tell you why, because you are NOT a celebrity. This blog is going to be used to focus in on how differently celebrities are being treated and compared to everyday normal people. Not every celebrity is treated like royalty, a perfect example is Paris Hilton. Paris Hilton was stopped and cited for alcohol related reckless driving and then again for driving with a suspended license. Everyday normal person would receive a ticket for the first infraction or even a night in the "drunk tank", then for the second infraction we would get another ticket and the loss of our drivers license. This is based on a normal individual with no criminal record or maybe even with a minor infraction on their record.
Paris Hilton had no other infractions on her record when she was sentenced to serve 45 days in jail for breaking the terms of her probation by driving. The judge in the case put another heavy hurt on the case by not allowing Hilton to do work project or home detention. The sentence was one that no matter how you look at it, it was very harsh and the judge wanted to prove a point with Ms Hilton.
I know that Paris Hilton is someone that not everyone would even call a celebrity, but she does come from a family that is very well known for their Hotels and money. Paris assumed that because she has money she can get away with anything. Well she was wrong! Was this sentence to harsh or do you agree with the sentence that she was given? Please do not base your answers on who she is and if you do or do not like her. Base your opinion on her infraction with the law and given her lack of criminal history.
I will be the first to say that this was one of the punishments that was to harsh for the infraction that was committed. The judge based his decision on who she was and who her family was. This was a bad judgment call on his part.

I believe the judge was trying to make a point to the public. Just because she was a "celebrity" does not mean she should get off easily. She could have injured herself or worse. The only problem is people such as Chris Brown received a lesser punishment for something way worse than drunk driving. He committed a heinous act against another person, someone he claimed he loved...
ReplyDeleteYour blog is unique and I am excited to read more. I have to say that I think Paris deserved what she was sentenced. Whether the judge was trying to make a point because she is famous is debatable, but I think he did make the right decision. Anyone who drives under the influence should receive a punishment that will discourage them from ever doing it again.
ReplyDeleteI believe both sides make good arguments and there are always exceptions to the rule. It would be interesting to see a list of all the biggest cases in the past year and compare sentences/tickets with those of non-celebrities for the same thing.
